The smells naturally draw me in – this weekend {Friday thru Sunday} you can by-pass the chore of fixin’ and just follow your nose to the Middletown BBQ Cook Off. Raise $ | Relax | Enjoy BBQ – Delaware Style!

Friday- Sunday ~ May 18th -20th. The stats from last years Grand Prix are staggering considering it was only 5 years old. The Wilmington Renaissance Corporation brought this event to life in 2007 and their efforts are really starting to pay off for the Greater Wilmington Community.
Downtown Wilmington will be bustling with activities during this 3 day event. The fun starts with the Monkey Hill time trials on Friday, a 3.2 mile race through Brandywine Park that you may remember from the Tour DuPont days. The Cadence Cycling Foundation will be kicking things off with a group of youth racers @ 4pm and the amatuer and the pros will follow. During this time hundreds of volunteers from Chase will be stuffing backpacks with food and school supplies to be distributed to Wilmington schools. (more…)

Drum roll please…Barbara was forwarded the contest post via Facebook. She doesn’t recall who sent it to her but knows it sparked her interest. After some thought she said to herself ”Why Not?”. We asked all entrants to share their personal story by answering “Why do you need an Ultimate Hair Makeover?” Barbara’s response won our hearts and we hope yours too: “ I have lost just under 100 lbs since January 2011. Prior to that, I had my hair style that fit my rounder face. Now that I have a much thinner face, my hairstyle doesn’t fit my face. I am tired of being told that I look old and unhealthy because of the weight loss. I even tried to cut it shorter, didn’t help. Now it is growing out, still nothing is working for me. I don’t want the weight loss to be a regret or a negative because people see “age” in my face. Hair can change a lot about that. I want, need and deserve a new and flattering style to match my new me. Please pick me….Thank you”
Barbara enjoyed an afternoon of pampering courtesy of SHIFT, a hair salon & Ooh La La, the make-up studio. We met with the entire makeover crew for a photo shoot. Barbara was smiling from ear to ear – new look, new attitude and plenty of bags of product & goodies to boot!

Sunday, May 13thCan’t decide what to give MOM or what to do for Mother’s Day? Don’t fret about the flowers, the “I love mom” tatoos, the materialistic gifts and greeting cards, trust us we know what your mom wants! If your an older child( 18+ unless you are still living at home then follow the under 18 guidance please) she wants quality time with YOU! If you are under 18(or still living at home)… Well, she may just want a few hours of peace, quiet & relaxation maybe a little shopping(alone), a full body massage(by a professional) and a mystery cleaning crew to magically appear throughout the house while she’s out but you didn’t hear that from us!
Regardless, you can set aside ONE(1) day to celebrate the Woman who birthed and cared for YOU? CELEBRATE MOM or else – remember she has the power to send you back!

May 11thHey, it’s National Eat What You Want Day. So, you’ve been given a free pass to eat whatever your heart desires…what do you choose?
This day could very well become one of my favorite holidays. After working in the restaurant business for ** years I’ve seen people obsess over every morsel. I say, go out to eat on this fine Holiday and don’t make any modifications. Just sit back, relax and enjoy your meal the way the Chef intended. Eat french fries instead of the side salad, take the kids out for ice cream, indulge in the pasta with Alfredo or vodka sauce instead of the marinara you usually order. I’m not saying this is the day to OVER- Indulge, I’m saying have something you want, the way you want it, but don’t get crazy!
So, what’s it going to be? What would you eat if you could have anything you wanted without any repercussions? Send us your comments please…inquiring minds want to know. Here are the responses we’ve received so far:
“I would have to go with a plate of nachos from Kid Shelleen’s”.
- Kim Frierichs of Wilmington
“I would eat the Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup from Pizza by Elizabeth followed by dessert of course!”
-Angela Bifferato of Dover
“I would have the duck a l’orange from the Columbus Inn & I’d like to wash it down with a triple thick chocolate shake from The Charcoal Pit”
-Hayla Delano from Wilmington
